Why Christmas is the Most Wonderful Time of the Year to Stay Sober

With 365 days in the year, the last few weeks in December are some of the best days of the year for many Americans due to the holidays taking place and having some well-needed vacation time. For someone who just got sober, the last thing they may be thinking about is celebrating Christmas because they may not feel festive knowing they cannot drink or use this year. Instead the holidays could be the cause for bah humbugs although it does not have to be. Staying sober during Christmas time will prove to be a much better day without having drugs and alcohol in your system and here are some Christmas carols to articulate why.

Deck the halls

One of the best things about Christmas is going to see the lights that are displayed on people’s houses and yards. Plus, the Christmas tree decorations and stockings on the inside of your house are something that you can really appreciate the beauty of now that you are sober. Fa-la-la-la-la.

Joy to the World

Being sober during Christmas time will probably be more enjoyable to your loved ones when you do not show up loaded this year. Even though you are sober does not mean that the Christmas will be perfect, but you can exhibit much better behavior when you have your wits about you.

Holly Jolly Christmas

During the Christmas holidays there is a jolly buzz in the air that happens without you having to be buzzed at all. Kindness and joy are everywhere as people are more generous and caring when it comes to one another during this time of year. If you were using and drinking, you would miss this sentiment completely. Being sober gives you a wonderful opportunity to be of service to your loved ones and fellow mankind.

I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus

Whether you believe in Santa or not, there is an undeniable Christmas spirit that everyone can feel. Under the trance of drugs and alcohol, most likely you will blackout and pass out without seeing or feeling the magic that Christmas generates to those who believe and want presents under their tree.

Being sober during Christmas time is a good decision for your recovery because you get to live in the moment of enjoying all the festivities that the season will present. Getting “merry and bright” means more than just getting lit up like a Christmas tree. Enjoying your recovery and being grateful will be instrumental in having yourself a merry little Christmas.
