What are Four Fun Things You Can Do on Thanksgiving and Stay Sober?

This Thanksgiving Day there is no need to dread this day of gratefulness because you cannot drink or use. There are many enjoyable activities that will help you to stay focused on your sobriety while you have fun doing it.

Watch a Movie

Some of the best movies of the year are known to come out on the week of Thanksgiving. There will be crowds to endure so if you are feeling overwhelmed with all the people, get a Redbox movie instead or watch something on Netflix with your family and friends at home.

Run the Turkey Trot

Major cities around the country host turkey trot 5K races that you can either run or walk with your family or friends to get a medal. If you are not close to a city that has a turkey trot, you can run a virtual race by signing up online to which you will still get a medal and bib. By setting your GPS to show you when you run 3.2 miles, you can run your own personal 5K and then go eat at all you want since you exercised before your Thanksgiving dinner.

Bake a pumpkin pie

Trying to make a whole Thanksgiving dinner may be too big of a task for you although making a pie can be relatively easy for even the most novice cooks. Buy a premade pie crust that you can find in the freezer case and get the ingredients that a can of Libby’s 100% pure pumpkin displays on the label. Follow the instructions on the back of the can of pumpkin and with the pie crust to make a delicious and foolproof pumpkin pie. Do not forget the whip cream!

Play board games

Bust out your old-school board games such as Life, Monopoly, or Trivial Pursuit after dinner. Since most people will not want to move anyways, why not clear off the table and start a game where people are already sitting? There is nothing like playing games with the family to promote fun and laughter during a day of thankfulness.

Recovery may be perceived as a drag even though recovery is as fun as you make it. Enjoy your day with friends and family by hitting a meeting first so you can be in the right frame of mind to appreciate what Thanksgiving is all about.
