There is a misconception that marijuana addiction does not exist. Marijuana is considered to be one of the most natural drugs out there which can clout the perception that it is addicting. The deceptive vision of marijuana blowing in the wind growing in the fields organically takes away from what it really is – a mind-altering substance that can be addicting for anyone who is susceptible.

Marijuana is in the news more often because of the states that have legalized the drug for both medicinal and recreational purposes in the last few years. With the continuing changes in legalization, there has been more concern with cannabis abuse since the drug will be readily available for those in the states where marijuana laws have changed. Addiction can happen with marijuana and there are some of the telltale signs that reveal someone is addicted.

Marijuana is used to be creative or to relax.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy found that marijuana does not always mellow a person’s disposition or get their creative juices flowing. In cases of addiction, people who had substance abuse problems became easily agitated under the influence of marijuana.

Marijuana impedes productivity. ‘

A person who would rather consume cannabis than tend to their responsibilities and obligations points to a dependency on the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) found in marijuana. The psychoactive effects of THC are what attracts most users to consume the plant in a variety of different methods.

Marijuana causes withdrawals

To understand whether an individual is addicted to any drug, including marijuana, is to see if they experience withdrawals when they are not using. Symptoms of withdrawal include irritability, insomnia, anxiety, sweating, and nausea. When marijuana is consumed there could be a tolerance built up to where users will need to use more as time goes on causing withdrawals to become more frequent when they are not getting the fix they need.

Marijuana is used to escape from problems

One of the most well-known reasons for someone to use cannabis is for the calming properties that is produced by ingesting THC. Instead of facing problems head on, a person may get high to block out the issues they need to deal with for the time that they are under the influence.

Someone who may be addicted to marijuana should try to stop using the drug for a few days to see if being sober is an issue. If someone is not addicted to THC they will go about their business just fine without it. Someone who is addicted will have the obsession take over and they will not be able to function without it. Marijuana addiction is a real thing and there is help for the taking.
