Challenge Yourself to Try One New Adventure by the End of Summer

Recovery can be fun. Recovery is not always about going to meetings or talking to your sponsor every day. Yes, you should absolutely keep going to meetings and talking to supportive people. Recovery can offer you so much more than a consistent routine.

As the year is progressing towards summer, it’s time to break up the monotony. It’s time to challenge yourself to one new adventure by the end of summer.  Life is about making new memories and being the best you. Sometimes spoiling yourself and trying new experiences is really a form of self care.

The first thing to consider is what type of adventure you want to have. Maybe getting your family or a group of friends to plan the perfect adventure is necessary. Use the planning process to determine where you want to go and what you want to do. Are you more interested in staying local than traveling, if so plan accordingly.

Once you figure out where you want to go, research places to go have fun. Perhaps your idea of an adventure is traveling to Europe, or you may be lover of all that is local. Either way, do something different. Try a new restaurant, new hotel, or new destination.

If you do decide to travel, plan ways to get your 12-step meetings in. There are several different options. AA and other 12-step meetings have gatherings all over the world. Go online or call your local service office to find a list of meetings. Consider gathering meeting info before your trip, just in case you run into any road blocks, like limited internet access. Don’t discredit the online meetings either. If you have internet access, you can attend a meeting.

No matter what you choose to do, do something. Spoil yourself. Go to a different state or country if you can. Go to an exotic beach or plan a skydiving trip. Whatever you do, enjoy every moment of your adventure.
