Money and finances can be a touchy subject for anyone. For those in recovery, financial concerns can feel especially stressful. Money can even be a trigger to use for individuals in early recovery. Try not to feel overwhelmed. You can master the art of financial stability and still remain sober. Here are 4 tips to help you balance your recovery and achieve financial health.

1- Budget. Budgeting doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There are smartphone apps, financial coaches, and self help books that can help you figure out the right budget for you. The key to budgeting is to organize your money and pay necessary bills. You can use your extra money on savings and entertainment.

2- Call on your support system. If you have a friend who is strong in the budgeting area, ask them to help you stay accountable and focused. Think of them like a mentor for your budget. If money is a trigger for alcohol and drugs, a lot of people have found success asking a trusted loved one hold on to extra cash.

3- Use a savings account. Try to save what is affordable for your income and expenses. There are a variety of tools for savings, in addition to a savings account. Call a certified accountant or financial counselor to get you started in the right direction.
