Pink clouds go along with the visuals of butterflies and rainbows in the sense that they make you happy although you may not experience them very often. Butterflies, rainbows, and pink clouds symbolize the kind of mystical beauty that just makes you feel good. The idea of a pink cloud is meant to represent the changes in your life that can bring you to a place where the struggle is nonexistent, and everything is a little too good to be true.

The term “pink cloud” derived from the book, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions page 113, where the writer, Bill W, describes how the pink cloud stage happens to someone who is newly sober. You feel on top of the world with your newfound freedom from drugs and alcohol, but at some point, life starts happening again, reality sets in, and the pink cloud dissipates. “Sooner or later the pink cloud stage wears off and things go disappointingly dull. We begin to think that A.A. doesn’t pay off after all. We become puzzled and discouraged.”

In the midst of this confusion, the pink cloud that was once a blessing can become a risk for relapse. Instead of wanting to face the consequences and the truth, you may wish to float away completely to avoid the uncomfortableness that comes with recovery work. Your best bet is to use some of your recovery principles for your betterment all around.

Integrity

Start getting honest about your situation and make the changes you need to be comfortable. Avoiding responsibilities, financial obligations, and important relationships will get you on the fast track to implode your life. Be forthright and deal with your circumstances so that you can get rid of the impending doom that will follow you.

Brotherly Love

Help someone else out when you feel anxious, depressed, or lonely. Just because you feel like things are not going your way, you can always see how blessed you are by helping someone else who is less fortunate than you are. Pick up the phone and call someone to ask how they are doing. Shake a person’s hand or smile at them so they can feel special with your warm welcome.

Patience

Stop with any entitlement you may have and start appreciating what you do have. You may think you deserve more than you have, but your Higher Power has a plan for you. Waiting patiently for your life to come to fruition will be better than you could ever imagine.
