Those who suffer with substance abuse may find themselves inside a rehabilitation center for addiction to seek the help they need because they cannot stop on their own. While in rehab, you may find yourself being taken care of by the staff, coexisting in a safe place, and having some consistency that makes you feel more secure in your decision to stop using and drinking.

Once out of the shielded environment that you have been in for 30-90 days, you may get terrified without the four walls of rehab keeping you protected from world outside. If you have been to rehab before and you did not make it the last time, do not let the fear of the past keep you from being sober in the moment. A plan of action is important to put into place so that you can build a strong foundation in your sobriety after rehab.

Follow your recovery plan

You may think that doing the deal in recovery is lame. What is really lame is the person that you are when you are drinking and using. Your recovery plan is the most important thing for you to focus on in your daily life. Keeping up with therapy and your step work should be the very things that will make you feel secure in your attempt to stop your addiction in its tracks.

Continue with therapy

Although you may not understand the use of therapy going forward, therapy is a gold mine with the right therapist. You will continue to recover with a healthcare professional who is trained to ask and probe you in the correct direction so that your therapy can continue to assist you in your quest for self-knowledge.

Understand your relapse prevention plan

Before you leave rehab, you should be equipped with a relapse prevention plan which will serve a useful purpose if the obsession and the allergy returns. Knowing what to do when you are at risk to relapse can ultimately save your life which is important to utilize in a pinch.

Get supported

You must surround yourself with sober people and loved ones who want you to stay sober. Without them, you will most likely gravitate back to the friends with whom you use to drink and get high with because that is what you know. Flip the script and find those friends who will support you when you are feeling weak.

Going to rehab and coming out of there into your recovery can be scary for someone who is vulnerable. The best thing you can do for you sobriety is to use the tools you learned in rehab to continue with a lifetime of sobriety.
