One line that can be pulled out of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, to sum up, the spirit of true recovery goes like this, “Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope.” Anyone who chooses to get sober and stay in recovery has an intrinsic duty to be of service to others who also suffer from addiction which is what happened to two stars from the hit show, Full House.

Jodie Sweetin, who got sober in 2008, has used her celebrity status to get the word out that recovery is doable if you work it. After her show Full House got canceled in 1995 at the age of 14, Jodie had a hard time figuring out what her identity was. She began abusing drugs and alcohol to cope with the transition of ending the show and to fill the void. After 12 years of turmoil in addiction, Jodie finally ended her battle with addiction and turned to recovery measures to get sober. She wrote a book in 2009, UnSweetined, that chronicled her struggles with drugs and alcohol to help others.

In 2015, her costar, John Stamos, got arrested for a DUI which led him into sobriety as well. He claims he hit rock bottom and finally asked Sweetin for her help which she delivered. In return, he was able to thank her for changing the course he took in his life regarding his sobriety. In March Stamos presented Sweetin with the Experience, Strength, and Hope award on behalf of the Writers in Treatment awards in Los Angeles. After the ceremony he took to Instagram to post this about her.

“Proud moment last night honoring @jodiesweetin at the Experience, Hope & Strength Awards. Who knew this little blonde scene-stealer in a side pony-tale would grow up and change so many lives. (Mine included),” he wrote. “Her sobriety is inspirational to say the least. Congrats Jodie on this award recognizing your extraordinary journey. You give so many people HOPE. Love you! UJ”.

In the spirit of recovery, with one alcoholic talking to another, carrying the message that recovery is the answer is the most loving thing these actors can share with one another. Although Sweetin and Stamos started out as an on-air family, finding each other within their spiritual recovery family can do nothing more but continue to strengthen their bond and let the other one know – you got it dude.
