Sun in the summer is a free gift! Sober fun in the sun is a wonderful way to spend your summer months in recovery. The warmer months have a positive effect on your mood, dedication, and motivation. Unfortunately, some people feel depressed or withdrawn in winter months. This phenomena is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Luckily, sunlight and warmth work well to combat any blues that you may have felt during the winter months.

Luckily, The Kimberly Center is located right in the heart of the sunshine. Florida is a great place to recover thanks to the sun, the warmth, and plenty of things to do should you decide to stay for longer than just a 28 day program. Once you make it through your first sober summer, you will discover that sobriety is well worth the journey.

Summertime and sunlight may bring parties, celebrations, and alcohol to your mind. When you start the recovery journey, you have to develop new habits. There is much more to summer and sunshine than alcohol and parties. Consider trying some of these activities to enjoy sober fun in the sun:

  • Go to the beach
  • Jet Skiing
  • Snorkeling or scuba diving
  • Visiting the everglades
  • Traveling
  • Swimming
  • A summer concert
  • A summer meal at an outdoor restaurant

As you can see, alcohol or drugs do need to accompany you as you enjoy the warmth of summer. Making a new life in recovery means learning new ways to have fun in the sun. You can stay sober in the summer months, you just need to develop new habits.

If these suggestions sound foreign, try taking a sober friend with you. Talk with a sponsor, mentor, or therapist about the challenges that you are facing. Give yourself time and be patient with yourself. You are learning how to live sober, one day at a time. Practice makes perfect.

Recovery is far from being dull or mundane. Recovery allows you to truly enjoy your experiences, without the guilt and shame that accompanies active addiction. As you continue to practice how to relax and enjoy the summer months, you will find that it gets easier with each passing year.

At The Kimberly Center, we care about your recovery. We want to help you enjoy the good experiences in life, sober. Celebrating summer sober is possible and even fun. Call us now at 855-4-KCENTER to learn more about learning how to have fun in the sun.
